Work too Heavy

WORK TOO HEAVY
RELIEVING CLERGYMAN HAS TO RESIGN
A little more than a month ago Rev. J. Boardman went to Cabramatta to take charge of the Church of England parish while the rector (Rev. G. B. Webb) was abroad. He didn't know what he was taking on. Seventy-six years of age-- he had his 76th birthday at Cabramatta-Mr. Boardman retired from active service, as it were, six years ago. Since then, however, he has been to various parishes as relieving clergyman. During his first week at Cabramntta he realised that the work of this parish was far too heavy for him. In his first letter .in the Cobra-ValeChurch News, he said, inter alia: "Your rector, from the instructions he left for he, has four centres to overlook. He is responsible for eighteen services each month, including ten with Holy Communion, and 46 classes in the public schools. He is also responsible for the services conducted by lay readers."Is it any wonder, then, that he needed a holiday? You may remember that the former rector, who was a young man, broke down under the strain. The duty is enough for three ordained men."Convinced that it was utterly impossible for him to do the work required, Mr. Boardman asked to be relieved of the charge. He has been succeeded by Rev. R. H. Simmons.
