From serching the historical birth records of Queensland's Births, Deaths and Marriages I discovered that 4677 Private John Joseph Battagline was actually born with the surname BATTAGLINO.
ROLL OF HONOUR.
BATTAGLINE.— In loving memory of our dear son and brother, Private John Joseph Battagline, 26th Batt., killed in action, Villers Brettoneux, 8th August, 1918.
'Three years has passed since that sad day,
Your grave we cannot see;
We cannot clasp your hand, dear Jack,
But this little token, 'we still remember thee.'
