Son of Thomas and Emily HANNAY of 42/6 Cooper Street, Sydney, NSW
Born in 1896, the only son of Mr. T.A. Hannay, Thomas was educated at Penrith and Sandringham Public Schools, and the Sydney Boys' High School. He entered the clerical department of the Sydney Morning Herald at the beginning of 1914.
In July, 1915, he enlisted and at the end of September sailed with reinforcements for the 17th Battalion, holding the rank of Corporal. He took part in a number of actions in France, and was killed at Noreuil, near Lagnicourt, on April 15, 1917.
