Husband of Martha Hesse nee Smith of Gety Street, Windsor, QLD. Louis and Martha married on 20 March 1915 in QLD

On 19 September 1916 he was promoted to Sergeant for the voyage only from England to France then reverting  to Private 

Commenced return to Australia on 25 March 1919 aboard HT Port Denison disembarking on 19 May 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane, QLD
