Son of William Umbers and Catherine Mary Umbers nee Monaghan of Prosepct Street, Pascoe Vale, Victoria formerly of Ouyen, Victoria. Brother of Thomas Umbers who returned to Australia on 7 May 1919 having served with the Australian Mounted Divisional Train
