One of the first
Harry Winslett 3rd Battalion AIF was my grandfather's brother. He was KIA at Gallipoli on 27th of April 1915. He was buried at Schrapnel Gully. His mother (my great grandmother) was Koori from the Wiradjuri tribe in NSW. My families indigenous heritage was kept quiet for many many years and as such Harry was most likely never listed as indigenous but he indeed was.
As a family we are interested to know if he was possibly the first indigenous Australian to be KIA in Gallipoli, considering he died just a couple of days after the initial landing.
His brother Richard Henry Winslett (Camel Corps) was also KIA on the Gaza in Palestine on the 19th April 1917.
