11 Aug 1918: Honoured Military Medal, During the night attack near Morlancourt S.W. of Albert on the 28-29/7/18 he carried out his duties with great gallantry. Pte Adams who was in charge of a Lewis Gun team, during the advance, encountered an enemy machine gun nest, which he immediately rushed and succeeded in killing several, after which the remainder surrendered with their gun. Continuing the advance he selected a position for his team while he, himself, went forward and personally reconnoitred the ground in front, during which he encountered another of the enemy and killed him. During the consolidation of the position he worked hard and his cheerfulness during the whole operation set a splendid example to all ranks. Son of  Edward Austin Adams and Catherine Adams nee Coleman of Footscray, Victoria. Brother of Clara Adams of Richmond, Victoria

Commenced return to Australia on 8 May 1919 aboard HT Devanah disembarkng at Adelaide on 20 June 1919

Ernest Austin Adams was born in Melbourne, Australia 1897 but later moved to Adelaide in SA to live with his family. He lived with his mum, (Catherine Adams), his dad (Edward Austin Adams) and his sister (Clara Adams). Ernest was 5 foot 10 inches and weighed seventy-one kilos. He worked as an ordinary labourer.

Ernest the Australian Imperial Force on the 18th of August 1915. He was assigned as a Private but then later was promoted to Sergeant. On the 30th of October 1916 Ernest was wounded in action in the field.

Ernest got shell shock and went to into hospital for 3 months. In February 1917 he marked into the 2nd Australian Command Depot. Ernest struggled with military discipline committing a number of violations in the AIF. On the 30th of April 1917, he failed to answer his name and got seven days punishment. On the 14th May 1917, he failed to comply with orders which got him two days of punishment. On the 16th of September 1917, Ernest got 14 days of detention as he neglected to obey to orders. These are three examples out of many times.

In July 1918 at Morlancourt, Ernest showed incredible bravery and was awarded a Military Medal for his actions.

In 1919, Ernest Austin Adams returned to Australia and was discharged from the Australian Imperial Forces. In 1945, Ernest Adams passed away due to tuberculosis.
