2nd Lieutenant William Howard Christophers, 12th Battalion was a 20 year old civil servant from Torrensville, South Australia when he enlisted on 20 May 1915. Hi Next of Kin was listed as his father, Mr H.T. Christophers of 'Kia Ora', Taylors Road, Torresville, South AustraliaHe was a member of the Adelaide Rowing Club from whence most of this information was sourced although some corrections have been made.
He embarked for overseas with the 7th Reinforcements of the 12th Battalion from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT Persia on 10 June 1915
After seeing action at Gallipoli, he went on to serve in France where he transferred to the 52nd Battalion and was promoted to Captain.
He was wounded in action on 7 June 1917 near Messines, France and evacuated to England.
After returning to France, he was transferred to the 50th Battalion. Captain Christophers arrived back in Australia on 24 December 1919.
He also served in the Second World War with the Garrison Battalion from 1939 until his death on 15 November 1942.
