Served and suffered during The Great War, now resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

63 years ago today, on the 27th July 1959, Private Frederick George Waller, 34th Battalion (Reg No-1272A), smelter worker from Newcastle, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 72. ANGLICAN 2-148. 72.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 6th December 1886 to George William and Bridget Eliza Waller nee Burns of Shedden Street, Islington, N.S.W. and Macquarie Street, Waratah, N.S.W.; husband of Mary Waller nee Waller! (married C of E Parish Church, Yorkshire, England 23.10.1918, died 1947, sleeping here), Frederick enlisted March 1916 with the 36th Battalion at Stockton, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 3.1.1917 (bronchitis, severe), 8.7.1917 (penetrating wound to leg?), 1.5.1918 (laryngitis), 31.5.1918 (laryngitis).

Wounded in action - 8.8.1918 (gas poisoning).

Frederick returned home with wife Mary and child September 1919, being discharged on the 7th November 1919.

Mr. Waller’s name has been inscribed on the Islington St. Mark's Anglican Church Roll of Honour and the Wickham Superior Public School Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at Frederick’s Commonwealth War Graves Plaque in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
