WELCOME HOME
"COOLGARDIE/WELCOME TO RETURNED SOLDIERS/Coolgardie, May 17/On Tuesday evening, at the town hall, the Citizens' Welcome Home Committee held their seventh reception to returned soldiers. The mayor, Mr. W. Strother, presided, and there was a record attendance, over 300 being present.
The following returned soldiers were welcomed, namely, Sergeants R. Wearmouth and W. Boulter, and Privates W.R. Hall, H. Outridge, C. Martin, T. Lonsdale, and G. Rigg. Private T. Bibby was also expected to be present, but he was unavoidably detained at Kalgoorlie.
The mayor made an appropriate speech, individualising each soldier and giving a short account of their several careers at the front, and his remarks were supplemented by Mr. H.W. Rockett. The soldiers replied, thanking the audience for their kind and enthusiastic reception…" Kalgoorlie Miner, 21 May 1919, p. 1

The details provided are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by Lucas Jordan, published 2017, refer pages 65 & 277. Prior to the war he was a labourer of Burbanks WA. He enlisted 4th Jan 1916 aged 28 years. He served with the 11th Infantry Battalion, rising to the rank of Corporal. During his service he was awarded a Military Medal for his activities. He survived the war, departing the UK for home 3rd March 1919

His parents were Richard WEARMOUTH & Catherine Julia PURDY
He married Margaret Jane (Peggy) WORTHY in Kalgoorlie, WA in 1921
He served in both WW1 and WW2 in the 11th Infantry Battalion & the Volunteer Defence Corps (3rd Battalion)
Richard died of a sudden collapse at the Bayswater Railway Station on 12th May, 1950 & was taken to the Royal Perth Hospital
