"...2589 Private William Charles Baker, 17th Battalion, of Haberfield, NSW. Son of William Henry and Matilda Baker, of Broken Hill, NSW. An electrical mechanic prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 2 November 1915. He was killed in action in France on 26 July 1916, aged 25. He was buried in the vicinity of Pozieres, France. Post war his grave was not found and he is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)

"THE LATE PRIVATE W. C. BAKER.

Private W. C. Baker was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Baker, of Crystal-street, Broken Hill. He was killed in action in France. Private Baker, prior to the war, was an electrician in Sydney, and was well known in Broken Hill.
