The sad tidings were received last night of the death in action in France of Private George Anderson, second son of Mr. Stuart J. Anderson, J.P., of "Boyndie," Black River. This brave soldier has been fighting for some time, and was wounded in an engagement last year. He was a steady industrious young man, and well known and highly respected, in Circular Head. The rector proceeded to Black River last night to break the news to the family. Much sympathy is felt for them in their hour of trial. A memorial service will be held St. Bartholomew's Chuich, Forest, next Sunday afternoon." - from the Stanley Circular Hed Chronicle 30 May 1917 (nla.gov.au)
