The AWM Embarkaton Roll (static.awm.gov.au) has the spelling of the Family Name as CAIRNDRUFF. The official Service Record indicates the Family Name was initially recorded incorrectly but amended to CAIRNDUFF. The Family Name has been amended to accord with that of the official Service Record. Amendement undertaken by the RSL Virtual War Memorial Chief Moderator, April 2015.
Robert Cairnduff, the fourth of 9 children, migrated from Scotland to WA in 1914, at the age of 16. He was an apprentice joiner and a football player. He joined his uncle, James Martin Patrick (who had migrated to WA around 1910), at Fereneze Farm, Yerapin, midway between Bruce Rock and Kellerberrin WA. He trained at Blackboy Hill before embarking from Fremantle on HMAT Karoola on 14 March 1916. Robert served on the Western Front and was in the 45th Battalion band. He was killed in action at Rosiers, east of Amiens on 17 August 1918, the day before his 21st birthday. He was single with no children.
