"..436 Lance Corporal Charles Sutherland, No 1 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps from East St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria. A 45 year old wheeler and joiner prior to enlisting on 2 February 1916, he embarked for overseas with the Wagon Section of the 1st Reinforcements from Melbourne on 30 May 1916 aboard RMS Morea. He disembarked in Basrah and went on to serve in Mesopotamia (present day Iraq) and Egypt, arriving back in Australia on 6 February 1918. He embarked from Melbourne with his son 437 Private Colin Sherson Sutherland who also served in Mesopotamia and Egypt and returned to Australia on 17 April 1919..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
