Frederick Arthur Beard was born at Poowong-Jeetho (as per Victorian Births Deaths & marriages, however Frederick Arthur Beard stated he was born near the town of Fairbank, via Korumburra), Victoria on 29th June, 1891 to parents William George & Margaret Beard (nee Angus).
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 29th July, 1915 as a 24 year old, single, Farmer from Fairbank via Kardella, Victoria.
Private Frederick Arthur Beard, Service number 4146, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Demosthenes (A64) on 29th December, 1915 with the 7th Infantry Battalion, 13th Reinforcements.
On 16th March, 1916 Private Beard was admitted to 4th Auxiliary Hospital, Cairo with Mumps. He was discharged on 25th March, 1916 for duty. (The Casualty Form – Active Service recorded that he was discharged on 16th March, 1916). He was taken on strength of 59th Battalion at Duntroon Plateau on 20th April, 1916.
He embarked from Alexandria on 18th June, 1916 on Kinfauns Castle to join B.E.F. (British Expeditionary Force) & disembarked at Marseilles, France on 29th June, 1916.
Private Frederick Arthur Beard was wounded in action in France on 19th July, 1916. He was admitted to No. 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station on 21st July, 1916 with shrapnel wound/s to Abdomen. Private Beard was transferred to Ambulance Train on 22nd July, 1916 & admitted to 13th General Hospital at Boulogne, France on 22nd July, 1916 with G.S.W. to Abdomen & Leg. Private Beard embarked for England on Hospital Ship Cambria on 26th July, 1916 with G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) to Abdomen.

On 26th July, 1916 Private Beard was admitted to Military Hospital, Edmonton, England with G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) to left Loin & Abdomen (severe).
Private Frederick Arthur Beard died on 30th July, 1916 at Military Hospital, Edmonton, England from wounds received in action in France - G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) to left Loin & Abdomen.
He was buried in Tottenham Cemetery, Greater London, Middlesex, England.
Base Records wrote to Mr W. G. Beard, Fairbank, Victoria on 20th April, 1920 to advise that the remains of his son “have been exhumed from grave No. 7331 Tottenham, Cemetery, Tottenham, London, and re-interred in grave No. 7317 in the same Cemetery. This work is carried out with every measure of care and reverence in the presence of a Chaplain.”
Private Frederick Arthur Beard is now remembered on CWGC Screen Wall - Gen. 7317 as he has no headstone. His death is still acknowledged by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
