Alfred Bolton
Alfred Robert Bolton was born in Bermondsey, London, England. He moved to Australia and lived in Blacktown at about the age of 14 before he joined the army.
Alfred Robert Bolton was the son of Emma Rebecca Bolton and Alfred Robert Bolton. They lived at 7 Stephen st., Blacktown.
Alfred enlisted at Liverpool, NSW on the 03 Aug 1915 aged just 17 years and 4 months. He embarked from Sydney on the HMAT Port Lincoln on 13 October, 1915.
Before joining the AIF Alfred was a Builder's apprentice. He served in the 4th Battalion in Egypt and in the 53rd Battalion on the Western Front. Sadly he was killed in action at Fleurbaix during the Battle of Fromelles, France on 19 July 1916 aged 18 years and 3 months.
Private Bolton is remembered at Blacktown Soldiers' Memorial and Blacktown Roll of Honour.
Private Bolton was the drummer in the Battalion Band and was reported missing on the 19th July 1916. He has no known grave but is remembered with honour at the VC corner, Australian cemetery and memorial in Fromelles, France.
