THE NEW MODERATOR.

The Rev. Joseph Lundie, B.A., of Hamilton has been nominated as State Moderator of the Presbyterian Church for the coming year. He will be inducted at the meeting of the General Assembly on May 15.

Tile new Moderator was bom at Bailieboro County Cavan, Ireland He was educated at the Dublin High School and Queen's College Galway and took his degree at the Dublin University He studied theology at the Assembly College, Belfast and won scholar-ships In his course at Queen's College and the Theological Hall He was licensed and ordained by the Bailieboro Presbytery in January, 1898 and left for Australia that year. Shortly after arrival he was inducted to the charge of the Toowoomba church, and held that pastorate for 21 years. He was Moderator of the Queensland Presbyterian Church in 1911 In 1920 he was given charge of the Hamilton congregation. He is married, and has four children.

FORMER STATE MODERATOR

Right Rev. Joseph Lundie, B.A., State Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in 1934-35 died suddenly at the Manse, Hamilton, early this morning from heart disease. He had been associated with the Church in Australia for 38 years.

The late Mr. Lundie had a distinguished career in the Presbyterian Church. Born at Balllebro. County Cavan, Ireland, he was educated at Dublin High School and at Queen's College, Galway, and later at Dublin University. After his graduation at the university, he studied theology at the Assembly College. Belfast, and was ordained a minister of the Presbyterian Church shortly before he left for Australia in 1898, when he was inducted to St. Stephen's Church, Toowoomba. There he remained for nearly 22 years, except for his period of war service as a chaplain with the A.I.F. During his service at Toowoomba, the late Mr. Lundie's efforts resulted in the foundation of a second church in the city, St. Andrew's, and two additional churches in the nearby towns of Westbrook and Burton. He was also instrumental in securing a large property at Falrholme. which Is now the site of a large Presbyterian Girls' School. Mr. Lundie's own church was enlarged during his encumbency.
ENERGETIC MINISTRY
Mr. Lundie was elected Moderator of the Queensland Assembly In 1911. He was also one of the first councillors of Emmanuel College, the Presbyterian College in the Queensland University. In 1920 he left Queensland and became the minister at Hamilton. The change from a rich district such as Toowoomba. to a charge in an industrial city was considerable, but owing to the late Mr. Lundie's energetic ministry. the congregation doubled and the church was rebuilt and fitted throughout with stained glass windows. A new manse was also built. Mr. Lundie reached the height of his career In 1934. when he was inducted Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales, at the meeting of the General Assembly in May 15. He leaves a widow and four grown up children. The funeral will leave the Manse, after a short service at the church, at 10.15 a.m. tomorrow, by road for the crematorium, Northern Suburbs, Sydney.
