Died on this date – 17th April…… Frederick Joseph Beattie was born on 26th February,1886 in Brisbane, Queensland.
He married Eva Brady on 1st December, 1909 in Queensland. Births were registered in Queensland for Thelma Irene Mary Beattie (born 1910) & Frederick Thomas Oakley Beattie (born 1914).
On 12th February, 1916 Frederick Joseph Beattie enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) as a 29 year old, married, Stockman from Brisbane, Queensland.
Private Frederick Joseph Beattie, Service number 1874, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on HMAT Clan McGillivray (A46) on 1st May, 1916 with 49th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Reinforcements & disembarked at Egypt on 13th June, 1916.
He embarked from Alexandria on 6th August, 1916 on Troopship Megantic.
Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.
Private Beattie was transferred to 41st Battalion (11th Training Battalion) from 13th Training Battalion on 23rd September, 1916 in England.
On 12th March, 1917 Private Beattie was appointed Lance Corporal.
Private Frederick Joseph Beattie died on 17th April, 1917 at the Military Hospital, Bulford, Wiltshire from Pneumonia.
He was buried in Bulford Church Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 14 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
