"THE LATE PRIVATE A. J. McLAREN.
Mr. and Mrs.. D. McLaren, of Gawler Blocks, have been notified that their nephew, Private A..J. McLaren, died of gunshot wounds in the chest and foot on October 14. Their son, Sergeant C. R. McLaren, was killed on July 23 last. Before enlisting Private McLaren was engaged in the carpentry and building trade with his father, Mr. W. McLaren, of Boort, Victoria. He was born in that State on December 17, 1895. He enlisted on July 23, 1915, and sailed for Egypt on November 23. After remaining in Egypt for a time he was transferred to France. There are still six cousins of Private McLaren at the front— Lance-Corporal J. R. and Driver A. B. McLaren (of Gawler), Private L. McLaren (of Normanville), and S. R. McLaren (of Forest Range), Lieutenant J. H. McLaren (of South Africa), and Sister Tilly McLaren (of Western Australia)." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 11 Nov 1916 (nla.gov.au)
