Good News! A returned veteran from The Great War resting at Sandgate Cemetery will have their Honour and Dignity restored.

Sapper George Outteridge, 4th Australian Field Company Engineers & 12th Australian Field Company Engineers (Reg No-6501), labourer from National Hotel, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia and Cowper Avenue, Kahibah, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery on the 2nd January 1943, age 64. ANGLICAN 3-163. 35.

Not married.

Enlisted December 1915 at Blackboy Hill, Western Australia as George Wilson.

Wounded in action - 4.6.1918 (GSW left shoulder).

Younger brother Herbert Jesse (35th Battalion, Reg No-167, born 1890? died 1963) resting same location.

George’s name has been inscribed on the curbing with brother Henry, but not Herbert’s name.

Wooden crosses erected May 2022.

I submitted applications to DVA asking for Commonwealth War Graves Plaques to be placed at the gravesite August 2022, and George was accepted August 2022, fingers crossed for Herbert!
