Died on this date – 13th October…… Ernest Henry Bryan was born at McDonald Town, Sydney, NSW on 14th February, 1892.

He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 21st July, 1915 as a 23 year old, single, Chainman from Miles, Queensland.

Private Ernest Henry Bryan, Service number 3244, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on HMAT Seang Bee (A48) on 21st October, 1915 with the 9th Infantry Battalion, 11th Reinforcements.

He was admitted to 4th Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Cairo on 12th January, 1916 with mumps & was discharged to his Unit on 1st February, 1916.

On 25th February, 1916 Private Bryan was transferred to 49th Battalion from 9th Battalion at Zeitoun. He was taken on strength of 49th Battalion at Tel-el-Kebir on 29th February, 1916.

Private Bryan was appointed Driver & to be 1st Line Transport from 7th April, 1916.

Driver Bryan proceeded to join B.E.F. (British Expeditionary Force) from Alexandria on 5th June, 1916 & disembarked at Marseilles, France on 13th June, 1916.

He reported sick on 8th August, 1917. He was admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance then transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station. Driver Bryan was transferred & admitted to 2nd Canadian General Hospital at Le Treport on 11th August, 1917. He was transferred on 13th August, 1917 to 39th General Hospital at Havre. Driver Bryan was discharged to Base on 17th October, 1917.

On 17th October, 1917 Driver Bryan was marched in to 4th A.D.B.D. (Australian Divisional Base Depot) at Havre & proceeded to join his Unit from 4th A.D.B.D. on 21st October, 1917. He rejoined his Battalion in the field on 23rd October, 1917.

Driver Ernest Henry Bryan was on leave to UK from 26th September, 1918.

He was admitted to 4th Scottish General Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland on 8th October, 1918 with Malaria while on leave from France.

Driver Ernest Henry Bryan died at 10.15 pm on 13th October, 1918 at 4th Scottish General Hospital, Stobhill, Glasgow, Scotland from Pneumonia.

He was buried in Western Necropolis Cemetery, Glasgow, Scotland where 10 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
