Son of George Thomas Symons and Mary Ann Symons nee Julian of Leigh Creek, SA.
Brother of Bessie Eunice Symons, George Harold Symons who returned to Australia on 1 August 1919 having served with the 27th Battalion, Freda Elizabeth Symons, Mary Edith Rebecca Symons, Hilda Jane Symons, Albert Gilroy Symons who was killed in action on 12 October 1917 while serving with the 48th Battalion and has no known grave and Francis Bertram Symmons who returned to Australia on 16 January 1919 have served with the 11th Light Horse Regiment
