Brother of William Richard Vockler who returned to Australia on 14 September 1919 having served with the 45th Battalion.

At the time of enlistment John was employed as a shirt cutter with Cleveland Shirt Factory of Sydney, NSW.

Commenced return to Australia on 11 December 1918 aboard HT Saxon disembarking on 1 February 1919
