Percival was the eldest of Joseph William Dale and his wife Ann Bridges (nee Guest) of Grandview Coleraine Victoria.

Percy had two brothers, and five younger sisters.

A brave and galant young man who was awarded the Military Medal during WWI, a series of his letters sent back from the Hindenburg line show the difficulties faced by the Allied soldiers.
