Send-off to Soldier.
On Saturday last about 80 persons tendered a send-off to Private Howard C. Waters, in the Masonic Hall, Hurstville, prior to his departure for the Front. During the evening the departing soldier was presented with several articles of value, including a steel-lined wallet containing notes and gold from his fellow employees, and pipes, cigarettes, money belt, woollen comforts, &c., from various friends.

Sudden Death
Mr. Howard C. Waters The sudden death at Leadville last Saturday of Mr. Howard Cecil ("Pop") Waters, lately licensee of the Royal Hotel, Dunedoo, came as a severe shock to his countless friends throughout Dunedoo and many other centres, and our sincere sympathy is extended to his widow and daughter in their sad loss.
The funeral took place in Sydney (Rookwood Crematorium) last Tuesday, March 6.

As previously notified by a short announcement in the 'Guardian,' the late Mr. H. C. (Pop) Waters,' aged 55 years, formerly of the Royal Hotel, Dunedoo. passed away suddenly, as a result of a heart at tack, at his residence at Leadville, on Saturday evening, March 3, and the funeral took place in Sydney on Tuesday. March 6. The sudden passing of the late Mr. Waters came as a shock to his numerous frieads in many parts of NS.W. as well as the Dunedoo district, where he was very well known.
Born at Gravesend, England, the late Mr. Waters arrived in Svdney in the year 1911 when he entered the service of Messrs. Winns Ltd., Oxford Street, Sydney. In the year 1921 he took over the licence of the Court House Hotel in Gunnedah, and in 1923 he returned to Graves end, England, where he and his family remained for 11 years. On his arrival back in Australia he conducted hotels at Forbes. Manduramah. Dunedoo, Bogan Gate,Yeoval, Mulwala and Baradine, and his popularity at the several places mentioned was evidenced by the numerous messages received. As well as serving, overseas in the 1914-18 war, the late Mr. Waters joined the colors in the present war, and was well known as assist ant R.T.O. at West Maitland. Almost two years ago, March 21, 1943, the late Mr. Waters had the sad experience of losing, his only son, Fred, who passed away at Concord Military Hospital after a painful illness following military service, in the Middle East and New Guinea.
To the intimate friends of Mr.  Waters the funeral service at the Rookwood Crematorium brought vividly to mind the fond attachment of father and son, whose ashes will now repose closely together. The funeral service was conducted in an impressive, manner by the Rev. John Bidwell (Grand. Chaplain of the United Grand. Lodge of N.S.W.) and. Mr. Tate, representing the RS.S.A.I.L.A. Military honors were conferred, tha Union Jack draping the casket. Numerous floral tributes were in evidence, including which were those of the Dunedoo sub-branc' of the R.S.S.A.I.L.A. and the Masonic fraternity of Dunedoo, both institutions of which the late Mr. Waters was an ardent member. 
Deceased is survived by his widow (Mrs.. Anne Waters) and daughter (June), who is a pupil of the Pymble Presbyterian Ladies College. Other relatives at the funeral were; . Mrs. Grace Waters (widow of the late Fred. Waters), and daughter, Pamela; Mr. and Mrs. Shapter, Mr. and Mrs. Radeski.
