Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

61 years ago today, on the 29th May 1963, Private William Arthur Outtrim, 34th Battalion (Reg No-7513), quarry hand and engine driver from Bulahdelah, New South Wales and Stroud, N.S.W. (1938) and 39 Braye Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 64. METHODIST 4-10. 58.

Born at Bulahdelah, New South Wales on the 30th January 1899 to Arthur Daniel, died 1931, Richmond, N.S.W., age 76, and Mary Ann Outtrim, died 1945, Richmond, N.S.W., age?; husband of Kathleen Ada Outtrim nee King (married?, died 24.4.1949, Mayfield, N.S.W., age 47, sleeping at METHODIST 4-10. 60, name not listed on Sandgate Cemetery or Find a Grave database), William enlisted on the 29th January 1917 with the 13th Battalion at West Maitland, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A74 Marathon on the 10th May 1917.

Wounded in action - 18.8.1918 (GSW right shoulder, slight).

Transferred to England 20.8.1918.

Admitted to hospital 21.8.1918.

Furlough from 12.11.1918 to 26.11.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 12.12.1918.

William arrived home invalided on the 1st February 1919, being discharged medically unfit (GSW right shoulder) on the 14th March 1919.

Mr. Outtrim’s name has been inscribed on the Bulahdelah District First World War Roll of Honour, Bulahdelah War Memorial and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at William’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Not officially commemorated.

Also served WW2 (enlisted 13.11.1939, Newcastle, N.S.W., 2nd Garrison Battalion, NX165925, WO 2, discharged 29.7.1948).
