John Richardson
John Richardson was born at Forest Range on the 27th February 1881 During the
Boer War {1899-1902} Richardson served for 15 months with the 6th Western
Australian Mounted Infantry. He worked as a blacksmith prior to enlisting in Kalgoorlie at the age of 35 on the 14th May 1916, nominating his wife, Florence Harriet Richardson of Boulder City W.A, as his next of kin.
Richardson left Melbourne on the Hororata on the 23rd November 1916, reaching Plymouth, England on the 29th January 1917. His war service was cut short as he was sent home to Australia on board the Euripdes on the 21st July, due to valvular disease of the heart. Upon his arrival home he was discharged as medically unfit on the 29th September 1917. On the 30th September a pension was granted to Richardson, his wife and three sons.
Richardson’s medical condition is puzzling in light of a medical report dated the 15th May 1917, conducted at Larkhill, Salisbury, England which stated his medical history as:
1. Rheumatic fever 16 years ago and again 5 years ago.
2. Rejected twice for enlistment due to “heart trouble”.
3. Enlisted and has suffered with shortness of breath and giddiness on exertion ever since. { NAA: B 2455, Richardson. J. 30739.}

RICHARDSON.— The friends of the late Mr. JOHN RICHARDSON, Jnr., late Conductor, Commonwealth Railways, and of 17 Cargill-streef, Victoria Park, former ly of 24th F.A.B.. A.I.F., are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of interment, the Church of England portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery. The funeral is appointed, to leave his late residence, 17 -Cargill-street, Victoria Park, at 1.45 o'clock TO-MORROW (Thursday) AFTERNOON. Friends wishing to attend the Funeral may proceed by the 2.5 o'clock train from Perth.
