Pte 1134 Charles Altmann was killed in action on 29 November 1915 when the trenches at Lone Pine were subjected to such heavy shelling that the roof and sides collapsed. Fourteen men from the 24th Battalion were buried alive.
Originally buried at Brown's Dip, Pte Altmann's remains were re-interred at Lone Pine Cemetery in 1923.
Remembered on the Geelong War Memorial.
