3 Apr 1917: | Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 1844, 4th Pioneer Battalion, Private Chappel reported sick to Fovant Military Hospital on 3rd April 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital on 17th April 1917 byt transferred back to Fovant Military Hospital on 25th April 1917. He succumbed to the illness at 6:55am on 7th May 1917. |

Burial Report regarding the Late 1844 Private Chappel
'The deceased soldier was accorded a military funeral and was the first Australian to be buried in the Fovant Parish hurchyard; his friend, Private Robert Simpson has since been buried next to him. The Company has provided a permanent wreath and are erecting a stone cross.'
