Reuben Roseneus THOMPSON was born on 19th September, 1895 at the Jubilee Estate, Paddington, Brisbane, Queensland
His parents were Charles Roseneus THOMPSON and Annie Catrina (Catherine) PETERSEN (formerly KENWRICK) - who were married on 23rd December, 1890 in Brisbane - they had 9 known children - his Mother Annie was previously married to an Erasmus KENWRICK in 1882 in Queensland & had 3 known children - Erasmus died in 1889
He was living in Morningside, Brisbane when he enlisted in Brisbane on 16th September, 1915 and embarked on 31st January, 1916 with the 26th Infantry Battalion, 9th Reinforcements on the ship HMAT Wandilla from Brisbane.
About 7 weeks later Reuben was evacuated to the 15th General Hospital in Alexandria and was listed as being dangerouly ill with an abscess on his lung - on 3rd May he was transferred to the 3rd Auxiliary Hospital. It was recommended that he be invalided back to Australia. On 10th June he was admitted to No. 1 Auxiliary Hospital with foetid bronchitis
He returned to Australia on 3rd August, 1916 on the ship HT Karoola & was discharged on 23rd August, 1916
Reuben died on 10th May, 1919 in Brisbane due to his illness from which he never recovered - it was exacerbated by his war service
He is buried in Toowong Cemetery in Brisbane & his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial.
