Son of William Harold Vernon of Lower Redland Road, Bristol, England.
Prior to arriving in Australia William served twelve months with the Royal Field Artillery Territorials.
Commenced return to Australia on 3 May 1919 aboard HT Leicestershire disembarking on 21 June 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
