In South affica we were issued with one blanket and one waterproof sheet. Our rations consisted of five biscuts, one-eighth pound jame, an a half tin of bully beef. major W Seriven was in command. the regiment consisted of two and a half squadrons - Captain Hipwell was OC "C" Squadron; Captain Jock Watt DSO "D" Squadron; Captain Cudmore, "E" Squadron. Some notable South australian horsemen enlisted. Jim Crawford, George Frankel (both from Skewthorpe's show). Donald Smith from Wellington Lodge. J mcGillivary Mount Gambier, Jack Berry and Arch Davis. Mr Pope converstation reported in Sentry-Go December 1957 p.2
