My great Uncle
Alfred Harry Butler was my great uncle. He immigrated to Queensland from England with the help of the charity "Friends of the Poor" in April 1915. In October 1915 he enlisted with the Australian Military Forces and served on the Western Front. He was eventually discharged in January 1920.
He worked on a farm in Alton Downs until his death. He died on 29 November 1925 when he went to the aid of George Crook who had collapsed whilst inspecting a disused well. Both were overcome by foul air and drowned in 3ft of water.
