Francis Joseph Allen was born in Adelaide South Australia, the son of Thomas Allen and Catherine Allen. His home address was 80 Hutt Street. His religion was Roman Catholic. He was a labourer and a single man before he went to war. He had some siblings and one, Thomas Allen, also fought but returned to Australia, on 5th of July 1919.

Francis fought during World War One for three years between 1915-1918. He enlisted on the 8th of June 1915 and embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board the HMAT Star Of England on the 21st of September 1915. His rank was Private and the Unit was 13th Machine Gun Company. He was also in the 10th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement and the 4th Machine Gun Company. 

During the war, he was injured very badly in Corbie, France and later died of wounds on the 9th of April 1918. He died aged 26 years old. He is now buried in La Neuville British Cemetery (Plot II, Row G, Grave 11), France. His Panel number/ Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial is 177.
