Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

David was the thriteenth of eighteen children of John Mathew Cox (born 1842 at Bungle Creek near Tumut in NSW) and Mary Bridget Roohan (born 1843 at Bramlow Hill in Camden, NSW). John and Mary married in Wagga Wagga, NSW in 1858 and settled at Livingstone Gully Station at Tarcutta Creek in NSW where John was a Pastoralist until shortly before his death in 1909.

David was raised at Livingstone Gully Station, and by 1897 was working as a Stockman on stations in the region. By 1905 David was a Station Manager at Tarcutta near Wagga Wagga NSW, and in 1907 he married Lillian Maud Wakely (born 1876 in Sydney, NSW) in Paddington, Sydney NSW. David and Lillian were living in Strathfield NSW - where David was a Vet Inspector - when he enlisted (in Brisbane, QLD) in the AIF in 1915. David served as a Trooper (Service No:1897) with 7th Squadron 2nd Australian Remount Unit.

Following his Discharge in 1916, David returned to NSW and his work as a Vet (Stock) Inspector, which took him frequently out to regional areas. Lillian died in 1938 in Bankstown, NSW, and David in 1940
