John Dinnison (service number 1958). John left his beloved mother (Ms Catherine Martha Dinnison) at his house in Streaky Bay that John had been living in for the first 30 years of his life where he worked as a farm hand. He then travelled to Adelaide where he enlisted on the 3rd of September 1915 when he was at the age of 30. He travelled down to Melbourne to train as part of the 9th Light Horse Regiment. From there he travelled to Gallipoli on board the HMAT A69 Warida on the 10th of February 1916. In Gallipoli they narrowly missed going “over the top” and John survived. Form there John and his regiment fought in Egypt, the Palestine frontier and the Sinai where they could use their horses. John survived both these conflicts and returned to his home in Streaky Bay. He lived there his whole life and died 3rd of June 1953 and you can find his grave in the Centennial Park Cemetery.
