Clarence Gribble 20080
Clarene Gribble was the fourth son born to parents Edwin and Mary Jane Gribble in 1894 at the home 'Sunnyside' in Wandiligong, Victoria. He was the second youngest child of twelve children.
Clarrie enlisted with his best mate, Reginald Sylvester Mason on the 25th July, 1915 at Rutherglen. They were both printers at opposing newspapers in Corowa. N.S.W.
They sailed together aboard the ship HMAT 'Medic' disembarking in Plymouth on 18th July, 1916. Having both trained as Gunners, Reg decided to transfer to the Signalers so they were separated, never to see each other again.
Clarrie was transferred to France where he was gassed several times. On June 16th 1917, Clarrie was severely gassed again and sent to England to recover. It was whilst he was in hospital he heard of his dear friends death.
Upon returning to France he was engaged in many significant battles and on the 5th April 1918, he was killed at his gun during 'The Battle of Dernancourt'
He is buried near where he died at Frenchencourt Communal Cemetery. (Row A, Grave No. 12.
