"...286 Staff Sergeant Raymond Robert Kemp. Born at Mackay and educated at the Mackay State and High Schools. Son of William Thomas and Elizabeth Kemp, of Highgate Hill, South Brisbane. On the 10th March, 1920, was married to Winifred May Fern, daughter of the late Matthew, and the late Adelaide Mary Fern. Enlisted 23rd August, and embarked 23rd September, 1914, with 2nd Light Horse Regiment. Saw service at Egypt and Gallipoli, where he was wounded, and invalided to Malta. During convalescence was appointed Assistant Dentist to Captain Rust. Was later sent to England with enteric fever, and contracted bronchial pneumonia, and classified as unfit for further active service, and resumed duty with the 9th Dental Unit at Southall (London), Codford, and Wareham. Returned on "Karoola " in January, 1919, and discharged in June, 1919." - from Queenslanders Who Fought in the Great War
