Leslie was the seventh of twelve children of George Green (b1849 in Cork, Ireland) and Margaret (Mary) Hustler (b1852 in Pleasant Creek, Stawell, Victoria). George (a Labourer) and Mary married in 1873 in Pleasant Creek and settled in Mt Rouse to raise their children.
Leslie worked as a Labourer in Upper Traralgon Creek, and was in Melbourne when he enlisted in the AIF in July 1915. Leslie was a Private (Service No:3360) with 7th Infantry Battalion and served at Duntroon Plateau before going to France where he was attached to 1st Anzac Army Corps Light Horse Regiment when he became dangerously ill with Pleurisy. Leslie returned to Australia in August 1917 and was attached to 1st Anzac Mounted Regiment when he was Discharged in November 1917.
Returning to Australia, Leslie settled in Melbourne, Victoria and was working as a Storeman in 1920 when he married Millicent (Millie) Folwell (nee Rule; b1890 in Koroit, Victoria) - Millie was a Widow with four children. The couple settled in Melbourne where Leslie worked as a Storeman. He died in 1969 and Millie in 1980.
