Biography

"...VX45220 Corporal Ronald James (Ron) Barassi, 7th Division Supply Column, Australian Army Service Corps, of Footscray, Vic. Barassi played in the position of rover for the Melbourne Football Club between 1936 and 1940. He was one of four Melbourne premiership players - Keith (Bluey) Truscott, Sid Anderson and Harold Ball who were killed in action during the Second World War. Barassi enlisted on 15 July 1940 and died of wounds on 31 July 1941, in Tobruk, aged 27 years." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)

"RON BARASSI KILLED AT TOBRUK

Melbourne Footballer, Ron Barassi, former Melbourne footballer, has been killed at Tobruk, according to advice received last night. Aged 26, he will be remembered as a good type of utility footballer. He first played for Melbourne in 1936 and took part in 55 games, scoring a total of 81 goals. Picked as 19th man, he played with the victorious Melbourne team in last year's grand final. Before enlisting he was on the Melbourne City Council staff.
