Kenneth George Hurn, born 11 July 1939 to Edward Harry Hurn and Mavis Myrtle nee Smith. Married Antonia nee Porter on 13 February 1960, one daughter and two sons.
Occupation: Training instructor with PMG - Telecom - Telstra .
Education: Leaving (matriculation standard) in 1955 .
Served in the CMF (Army Reserve) for 28.5 years from Jan 1959 to Jul 1986. He rose to the rank of Captain and was awarded two long service medals - the Efficiency Decoration for 12 years commissioned service and the Reserve Force Decoration for 15 years commissioned service. He was also award two campaign medals for his service in South Vietnam in 1969.
Ken served with Central Command Signal Squadron at Keswick and Beulah Pk - with 122 Signal Squadron at Beulah Pk - with 144 Signal Squadron at Beulah Pk - with 4 Training Group at Hampstead - with Headquarters 9 Task Force at Keswick - with 27 Battalion Royal South Australia Regiment at Unley .
Ken qualified as a military marksman and was the battalion shooting officer in 2 7 RSAR and was the only officer qualified as a Marksman even if he was not an Infantry officer but the Corps of Signals.
Ken attended a series of schools as a result of his family's shifting in search of better working conditions and a better life.
He attended the following schools:-
Yarra Park State School, Punt Rd Jolimont Victoria for three and a half years.
Newport Primary school in Melbourne for a short time while his mother was in hospital.
Correspondence school on a silver lead mine 20 miles (32 km) east of Blinman SA.
Angaston Primary school
Nuriootpa High School
Port Augusta High School.
