"S.A. Man, 12 Years A Soldier, Killed in Korea
A soldier who was wounded twice in Malays and once in Korea in 12 years' Army service, was killed in action in Korea last Saturday. He was Sgt. Douglas Roy Barker, 29, of Junction street, Mile End.
Sgt. Barker Joined the AIF in 1940. After service in Malaya he became a member of the BCOF in Japan before being sent back to Malaya as an Instructor in 1948. Twice woanded in 1949, he spent leave in Adelaide and then returned to Japan. Sent to Korea, he was wounded in action and invalided home. From April to November, 1951, he was an instructor in Victoria, and then went back to active service in Korea. As a boy, Sgt. Barker spent seven years at Moonta.
