Biography contributed by Robert Kearney

"Pte. George Herbert (Bob) Harris, of the 3rd Bn. Royal Australian Regiment, was killed in action in Korea on April 24 during heavy fighting early in the Communist offensive. Pte. Harris, who celebrated his 21st birthday in Korea on December 7 was a son of Mrs. E. M. Harris, of Yulinda avenue. Lower Mitcham, and the late Mr. A. G. Harris, who died as a result of injuries received in World War I. Mrs. Harris said last night that her son had been a member of the ARA [Australian Regular Army] for two and a half years and was in the first contingent to fly to Korea. Before enlisting he had worked as a jackeroo on stations on the East-West line. He had been educated at Hindmarsh and Mitcham Primary Schools. Harris had planned to marry Miss Shirley Collins, of Red Cliffs. Victoria, on his return from Korea." - from the Adelaide Advertiser 02 May 1951 (nla.gov.au)
