Thomas William Todd was born at Glanville SA on 18 April 1911. In adult life he worked as a motor mechanic and was married to Gwendoline Todd. They lived together with their son Ronald at 19 Tapp St, Rosewater. Thomas was mobilised on the outbreak of war, initially for training to Cerberus and then, from August 1940, to HMAS Torrens at Port Adelaide, the principal naval depot in SA. According to newspaper reports after his death, he was a member of the Holy Name Society in Port Adelaide.
Thomas was killed on 14 July 1941 while a member of a R.M.S. (Rendering Mines Safe) party attempting to defuse a German naval mine which had washed ashore at Beachport, SA.
