Tasman Foster BARKER was born in Tallarook, Victoria in 1896
His parents were Francis Sydney BARKER and Alice Maud DUNLEVEY
He married Edmond Jane SELL in 1916 and had one child, James Rollo BARKER b. 1916
Tasman left Australia on board HMS Ballarat on 19th February, 1917, two months later the Ballarat was torpedoed by a German U Boat off the coast of Cornwall & sank the next day - all the passengers and crew survived
He died on 21st April, 1918 of wounds received in the first battle of Villers Bretonneux. - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial - he was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal
Two of Tasmans brothers also served - Rollo William BARKER (SN14) who died as a result of a motor bike accident in France on 27th February, 1918 and brother Francis Arthur Cyril BARKER (SN141) who survived the war and returned to Australia
