Son of Mr and Mrs P.E. OLSSON of 65 Robsart Street, Parkside, SA. Educated at Parkside Public and Unley High Schools, Calvin was fond of swimming and outdoor sports and was a butcher in civilian life. He enlisted in 1939, previously being in the Naval Cadets and transferred to the Australian Navy when war was declared at 18 years of age. He served on HMAS 'Perth' and 'Warego'.
