Laurence (Laurie) Vernon Lenton, born 17th August 1919, Ballarat, Victoria. In 1941 he gained his Intermediate Certificate and reported for duty with the Royal Australian Naval Reserves (RANR) on 17th March in the role of an ERA 5. He was described as 5 foot 11 and a half inches in height, brown hair, hazel eyes and fair complexion. Between 17th March 1941 and 21st February 1946, he was on several small ships. His tour of duty was manly in the Northern part of Australia between Brisbane and Darwin, including service in PNG. He was assessed as having a very good character and a satisfactory efficiency. On 17th March 1944, he received a good conduct badge. On 08th March 1946, he was demobilized. On 26 November 1945, he was awarded his medals and later received a War Gratuity of £216.115. Laurie worked as a fitter and turner after the war and prior to joining SAPOL on 27th January 1947. He rose quickly through the ranks;

Whilst in SAPOL, he also gained an Engine Watch Keepers certificate, St John Ambulance First Aid Certificate, Public Speaking Certificate and served on the SAPOL Leave Bank Committee. In 1959, he successfully completed a supervision and Human relations Course (Pass) and in 1960, an office Supervision Course (Credit). In 1970, he received a Queens Police Medal and in 1971, a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. When he retired, his record was marked exemplary.
Laurence and his wife Edna Loureen (surname unknown) married one another prior to 1941 and are first listed as living at 69 Rowena Parade, Richmond, Victoria (on his application to join the RANR) and later lived at 131 Collins Street, Broadview, South Australia. Laurence and Edna had 3 children.
