Stoker Vincent John Kernick (Service No:22789) enlisted in the RAN on 23 January 1939 on HMAS Cerberus. Stoker Kernick's service included HMAS Canberra, Penguin and Kuttabul and he was attached to HMAS Rushcutter at Discharge on 17 December 1946.

Born in 1921 in Kent Town in South Australia, Vincent was the third of four children of Franz (Frank Ralph) Rudolph Kernich (b1891 in Sutherlands, South Australia) and Alice May Irvin (b1891 in Adelaide, South Australia). Frank (a Railways Worker) and Alice married in 1917 in Karoonda, SA and lived in Prospect and Adelaide where Frank worked for South Australian Railways (SAR) as a Labourer and Shunter.

Vincent was in Melbourne, Victoria working as a Machinist in 1939 when he enlisted in the RAN. in 1942 in Sydney, NSW he married first wife Eileen Mary Josephine Sheehan (b1922 in Sydney, NSW) - they divorced in 1965. Following his Discharge from the RAN, Vincent worked in Newcastle as a Marine Cook and in 1967 remarried to Mavis Jean Cox (b1928 in Coffs Harbour, NSW). Vincent and Mavis lived in Newcastle where Vincent worked as a Seaman. Mavis died in 1981 and Vincent in 1991.
