Private James Dodds (Service No:1923) enlisted in the AIF on 29 June 1915 and embarked from Fremantle for Suez with 28th Infantry Battalion on board HMAT A68 Anchises on 2 September 1915. Private Dodds served at Gallipoli and in France (where he was WiA (GS to left side) on 7 June 1916). Private Dodds was invalided from England on 4 May 1917, embarking at Devonport for the RTA on board HT Themistocles A32. Private Dodds was Discharged on 24 July 1917.
In WWII, Private Dodds (Service No:W31747) enlisted in the ACMF on 9 November 1940 and served as a Private, Lance Corporal and Corporal with 5, 29 and 10 Garrison Battalions (WA). Corporal Dodds was atatched to 10 Garrison Battalion at Discharge on 6 November 1945.
Born in 1893 in Geraldton WA, Jim was the third of four children of James Dodds (b1866 in Cumberland, England) and Jean (Jane) Young Collins (b1872 in Dumfries-shire, Scotland). James (a Railway Worker) and Jane married in Perth in 1891 and settled in the Geraldton region where they raised their family and James worked for the Railways as a Guard, Fettling Ganger, Construction Ganger and Length Runner.
Jim was working as a Carter in Fremantle WA in 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF, and following his Discharge, returned to Fremantle where he was working as a Cabinetmaker in 1922 when he married Ada Knox (b1893 in South Australia) - Ada was working in Fremantle as a Typiste. Jim and Ada settled in Nedlands, perth WA where they raised their f amily and Jim worked as a Cabinetmaker. Ada died in 1967 and Jim in 1969.
