Son of Mr and Mrs S.M. THORPE of 2 Davey Street, Parkside, SA.

Married to Marjory Gwen THORPE with one daughter, Ronald was residing at 29 Frederick Street, Unley, and aged 30 years when he enlisted.  Educated at Parkside and Unley High Schools, he was captain of the Parkside Hockey Team and an interstate player in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide and also captain of his tennis team, winning several cups.  In civilian life a piano tuner and repairer, Assitant organist, custodian and an officer of Parskside Baptist Church.  He enlisted in May 1941, trained at Pearce in Western Australia, Mount Gambier, Port Pirie and Nhill Victoria.  Ronald gained his commision in June 1942.
